Summer week at Whitewater Village
We have just returned from our summer week at our fractional ownership cottage on the Ottawa River. The small cottage community is perched on a peninsula. The cottages are built on the Canadian Shield, each with waterfront and beautiful views of this unspoiled area of the mighty river, about one and a half hours west of downtown Ottawa.
The cottage proved a perfect place for a family gathering. On our first evening we cooked sausages on the fire-pit at the beach and other evenings we enjoyed candlelight dinners in the screened porch. Members of the family were always occupied, be it long swims, fishing, (lots of big fish), the rope swing, white water rafting, mountain biking, or road biking on the miles of quiet country roads in the area. We also took out kayaks and paddle boards and would have gone horse-back riding but for the interruption of a thunder storm. We enjoyed visiting Rafters pub for the live music, and White-Water Brewery to sample their craft beers, both close by. There was something for every age group, and I will always remember it as the place my grandson took his first steps!
Leaving Whitewater village is always hard but easier with the knowledge that we will soon be back. Next year we plan to invite our English relatives to join us and sample all that this area has to offer.
