Five years later, it’s still one of the best purchases we’ve made!
We always explain our weeks at Whitewater Village in the same way: “We arrive on Friday with food, drinks and clothes and leave the next Friday with clothes.”
We’ve always loved the idea of typical cottage ownership, but would have hated the reality: endless maintenance and cleaning, the feeling of obligation to visit every weekend to “get your money’s worth, ” worries about security when you’re not there.
Whitewater Village delivered all the advantages—relaxation, beachfront, water sports, outdoor adventure, comfort and security—with none of the disadvantages.
For our lifestyle, it makes sense. Living in downtown Ottawa and with a fairly busy travel schedule, we aren’t interested in spending every weekend at the cottage. Yet Whitewater Village is 90 minutes’ drive from downtown, meaning we’ve been able to “commute” for some of the days we’ve spent there if necessary. The variety of things to do means that even weeks in March or November have their charms. Heck, just lounging in the cottage reading or watching movies is a nice way to spend a day.
We’re able to entertain friends and family, with ample room for guests to hang out or stay over. Our best moments have been spent being active—snowshoeing through fresh snow, long paddles in the kayaks, jumping off the dock into the Ottawa River, runs to the road and back. More sedentary pursuits have also brought joy: preparing Christmas dinner for 10, roasting marshmallows on a campfire at the beach, using the golf cart to grab a beer at Rafters at Wilderness Tours. Five years later, it’s still one of the best purchases we’ve made!
